The works from the 80’s created by the artist were bolder in color and more intense and diversified then what had come before. Many of the works from the 80’s are a bridge between his earlier figurative works and the more abstract works that would come later.
This was a prolific period for the artist who was based mostly on the West Coast during this decade.
Shertz was not a religious man, and he never wanted to be labeled a Jewish artist. "A true artist has no color, no race, no country," he said. Yet in the 80’s he created a series of moving Holocaust works, included here in this collection.
